How to choose your toothbrush?

Going to the supermarket or pharmacy and standing in front of the dental brushes can be more confusing than it seems. There are brushes of all colors, shapes, sizes, and promises. But… which one is really the best for you?

Today, I’ll help you choose it in a simple way and with professional guidance.

  1. Most important: the bristles should be soft

Yes, soft. Even if you think “the harder, the cleaner,” the truth is that toothbrushes with hard bristles can wear down the enamel and damage your gums over time.

Why soft?

Because they clean effectively with the right technique, without damaging your gums.

  1. Small head

A toothbrush with a small head provides better access to hard-to-reach areas, such as the molars or behind the lower front teeth. It's also more comfortable to maneuver without hitting the gums.

  1. Ergonomic and comfortable handle

Manual or electric toothbrush?

How manual toothbrush or electric?

Both can work very well. You can buy the best toothbrush in the world, but the key lies in your brushing technique.

  • Manual brush: perfect if you have good skills and brush gently.
  • Electric toothbrush: helpful if you need assistance with technique or have physical limitations. It’s also a good option for children, teens, or older adults.

How often should I change it?

Every 3 months, or earlier if:

  • The bristles are splayed
  • You’re recovering from a flu or infection
  • The brush looks worn

Last but not least: for the areas your toothbrush can’t reach, there’s dental floss! Learning to choose this essential tool properly is key to achieving the best results. Good habits always start at home.
